Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution Era 2026: The Complete Set Guide for Swiss Collectors

2026 is the year of Mega Evolution. After the Scarlet & Violet block concluded in late 2025, The Pokémon Company launched an entirely new TCG era built around Mega Evolution Pokémon ex — fan favorites like Mega Charizard, Mega Greninja, Mega Darkrai, and Mega Rayquaza, returning in alt-art Special Illustration Rare form for the first time in years.

This guide is your central hub for everything about the Mega Evolution era. We cover every set released so far, the upcoming releases, the chase cards that matter, and which products are available at Celestrion — all at MSRP, with shipping directly from Switzerland.

If you're new to the Mega Evolution era, here's the short version: each set introduces 4–6 new Mega Pokémon ex with full-art Special Illustration Rares (SIRs), accompanied by Booster Boxes, Elite Trainer Boxes, 3-Pack Blisters, and occasional Premium Collections and League Battle Decks. We carry the main releases in English, plus selected Japanese imports and Chinese editions for collectors hunting region-specific variants.

Below, we go through each set chronologically with details on the chase cards, what makes the set worth collecting, and direct links to the products available at Celestrion.

ME01: Mega Evolution — Where It All Started

The set that opened the Mega Evolution era. ME01 featured the return of classic Mega-Evolved Pokémon to the TCG, including Mega Charizard X ex, Mega Venusaur ex, and a strong lineup of Trainer cards that defined the early competitive meta. For collectors, the Mega Charizard X ex Special Illustration Rare quickly became one of the most sought-after cards of 2026.

ME02: Phantasmal Flames

The second Mega Evolution expansion expanded the lineup with Psychic and Fire-type Mega Pokémon. Phantasmal Flames introduced new Mega ex cards with strong gameplay potential and visually striking Illustration Rares — particularly the alt-art Trainer cards that have become collector favorites.

ME04: Chaos Rising — May 22, 2026

The current release. Chaos Rising launches worldwide on May 22, 2026 with five new Mega Evolution Pokémon ex — Mega Greninja ex, Mega Floette ex, Mega Pyroar ex, Mega Dragalge ex, and a fifth Mega Pokémon — set against the backdrop of a chaotic night in Lumiose City. The set contains over 120 cards, 6 Special Illustration Rares, 11 Illustration Rares, and 18 Ultra Rares.

For collectors, the SIR Mega Greninja ex is shaping up to be the standout chase card of the spring 2026 season. We've written a complete guide to the set, the chase cards, and the pre-order strategy: Read our full Chaos Rising Set Guide.

Available at Celestrion: the Chaos Rising Booster Box, the Chaos Rising Elite Trainer Box, and the Chaos Rising 3 Pack Blister. All products at MSRP.

ME05: Pitch Black — July 17, 2026

The next major release. Pitch Black arrives July 17, 2026 and is built around two of the most-anticipated Mega Pokémon of the entire era: Mega Darkrai ex and Mega Zeraora ex. Dark-type collectors and Darkrai fans have been waiting years for this set — Mega Darkrai is expected to be one of the highest-value chase cards of 2026.

The Japanese equivalent of Pitch Black is called Abyss Eye, and we carry the Japanese Booster Box for collectors who want the original-language version.

Storm Emerald — Expected Fall 2026

Based on Japan's Storm Emeralda release, the international version is expected late summer or early fall 2026. The set features Mega Rayquaza ex — one of the most popular Pokémon of all time. Rayquaza cards have consistently commanded premium prices throughout TCG history, and the Mega Rayquaza ex SIR has the potential to be the most-hyped chase card of the entire Mega Evolution era.

Pre-orders will open at Celestrion as soon as official product details are announced. Sign up for our newsletter or check back here for updates.

30th Celebration — September 18, 2026

The biggest TCG event of the year. 30th Celebration is an all-foil anniversary set with 6-card booster packs, a brand-new rarity tier, and the first-ever worldwide simultaneous launch. Every Pokémon TCG market — North America, Europe, Asia, Latin America — gets the set on the same day.

For collectors, this is a must-pre-order release. Anniversary sets historically appreciate fast post-launch, and the worldwide simultaneous launch means scalpers can't arbitrage between regions. Sealed product is expected to sell out within hours of release.

How to Collect the Mega Evolution Era Strategically

For Sealed Investors

Buy Booster Boxes at MSRP from launch, store them sealed in a controlled environment. The Mega Evolution era is positioned to be a multi-year run — likely 8–10 sets total — and sealed product from the early sets has the highest long-term appreciation potential. Focus on ME01, Chaos Rising, Pitch Black, and 30th Celebration for the strongest investment thesis.

For Single-Card Collectors

Target Special Illustration Rares of fan-favorite Pokémon. Mega Charizard X ex (ME01), Mega Greninja ex (Chaos Rising), Mega Darkrai ex (Pitch Black), and Mega Rayquaza ex (Storm Emerald) are the SIRs most likely to retain value. PSA 10 grading can multiply value 3-5x for the most desirable cards.

For Competitive Players

Elite Trainer Boxes are the best value for getting playable cards plus sleeves and energy. The League Battle Decks released alongside major sets include meta-relevant reprints and are the fastest way to enter the format with a tournament-legal deck.

Why Pre-Order at MSRP from Celestrion?

Most major Pokémon set releases sell out within hours, and the secondary market typically lists products at 1.5–3x MSRP within days. At Celestrion, we hold the line: every Mega Evolution product is sold at official manufacturer's recommended retail price — no scalper markup, no inflated 'collector pricing.' Pre-ordering means you secure the product at fair price before it hits scarcity-driven markups.

Shipping is direct from our warehouse in Switzerland, with fast delivery throughout the country and across Europe. All products are 100% authentic and sourced directly from official distributors.

Stay Ahead of the Mega Evolution Releases

The Mega Evolution era is the most collector-active period the Pokémon TCG has seen in years. With major releases every two to three months and a multi-year roadmap ahead, staying ahead of pre-orders and set announcements is the difference between getting product at MSRP or paying scalper prices.
